It may seem that the ongoing legal wrangle between Apple Inc and the South Korean mobile phone giant has come to a happy conclusion with the senior executives of the two technology veterans agreeing on several points.
But Samsung has yet again raised the issue of patents by laying claim to no less than eight of them. It is official now. Samsung has asserted its claim over eight different patent against Apple and seems to be in no mood to relent. Samsung filed legal applications over Apple in the USA and seems keen to see the wrangle through to its logical (or should it be legal) end.
This news has been widely reported in the technology circles with all the online sites abuzz with this latest development.
The legal case is likely to come up for hearing this July in the USA.
Talking about the patent cases, Samsung has pointed out that among the additional eight patent cases in issue, two are part of the fair, reasonable and non discriminatory licenses or FRAND as it is called briefly. Now as per the FOSS Patents regime, FRAND is very vital to the whole issue as they are basically essential to ETSI Standards that is applicable to the technology sector universally.
Here, it is pertinent to point out that five of the patents have been originally applied for and the respective patents given to Samsung. And these five patents also include the two FRAND patents. While the other three patents were bought by Samsung Phone from different owners.
This clearly points to a fresh round of legal battle between the two leading technology players who have been fighting each other over patent and license agreements since the last couple of years and that to over 10 different countries.
